For generations of children, the hours between the end of the school day and dinnertime followed a familiar routine. Long before smartphones, streaming services, and social media filled every spare moment, kids found their own ways to stay entertained and connected.
While some of these traditions still exist, many have become far less common than they once were. Here are 10 after-school habits that have largely disappeared over the years.
10. Racing Home to Watch a Favorite TV Show
Before on-demand streaming, children had to be home at a specific time to catch their favorite programs. Missing an episode often meant waiting until the network aired a rerun.
Many kids planned their afternoons around television schedules. Once the show ended, it was gone until the network decided to air it again.
