The movies of the 1980s did more than entertain us. They gave an entire generation ideas about what to wear.
Some characters made us want leather jackets and sunglasses. Others made oversized blazers, prom dresses, or a perfectly distressed pair of jeans look like a complete personality. If every zodiac sign had chosen an ’80s movie character as a style icon, these are the looks they might have copied.
Aries: Maverick From Top Gun

Aries would have had little resistance to the Top Gun look.
A bomber jacket, aviator sunglasses, white T-shirt, and the confidence to act like every sidewalk was a runway would suit them perfectly. The clothes were simple. The attitude did most of the work.
Taurus: Baby From Dirty Dancing

Great American Films Limited Partnership
Taurus would have appreciated Baby’s relaxed, quietly sensual style.
Denim shorts, fitted tops, soft knits, and simple summer dresses looked comfortable without feeling careless. Taurus would have copied the wardrobe and then refused to leave the Catskills.
Gemini: Ferris Bueller From Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Gemini would have wanted a wardrobe with personality.
Ferris mixed a patterned vest, leather jacket, sneakers, and whatever else helped sell the idea that normal rules did not apply to him. Gemini would have enjoyed the fact that the outfit made almost as much conversation as the person wearing it.
Cancer: Andie From Pretty in Pink

Cancer would have connected with Andie’s ability to make clothes feel personal.
Her vintage pieces, handmade details, lace, florals, and carefully assembled outfits carried a sense of history. Cancer would rather wear something meaningful than whatever everyone else had just bought at the mall.
Leo: Tina Turner in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome

Leo was never going to choose a character who blended into the background.
Tina Turner’s Auntie Entity combined chain mail, dramatic shoulders, metallic details, and the kind of presence that made every entrance feel ceremonial. Leo would have needed a slightly more practical version for everyday life, but only slightly.
Virgo: Tess McGill From Working Girl

Virgo would have studied the transformation carefully.
Tess moved through the decade’s office fashion with tailored suits, structured coats, and the understanding that presentation could be strategic. Virgo would have appreciated a wardrobe that looked polished because someone had actually thought about it.
Libra: Sloane Peterson From Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Libra would have made Sloane’s effortless style look even easier.
The white fringe jacket, relaxed silhouettes, boots, and understated accessories created a look that was memorable without seeming overworked. Libra would still be trying to find that exact jacket.
Scorpio: Star From The Lost Boys

Scorpio would have found plenty to work with in Santa Carla.
Star’s romantic dresses, dark colors, leather, and slightly gothic California style sat somewhere between dreamy and dangerous. Scorpio would have appreciated a wardrobe that looked beautiful while suggesting something strange was happening after dark.
Sagittarius: Indiana Jones From Raiders of the Lost Ark

Sagittarius needs clothes that can survive the story.
A battered leather jacket, boots, practical trousers, and a hat that somehow stays on through everything would make perfect sense. The outfit looks better after it has been somewhere.
Capricorn: Gordon Gekko From Wall Street

Capricorn would have understood the language of the power suit.
Sharp tailoring, expensive fabrics, bold ties, and suspenders turned clothing into a declaration of status. Capricorn would keep the ambition and the wardrobe while hopefully making better ethical decisions.
Aquarius: Pris From Blade Runner

Aquarius would choose the character who looked as though she had arrived from a different decade entirely.
Pris combined punk, futuristic layers, dramatic makeup, and a deliberately strange silhouette. The look would confuse some people, which Aquarius might consider a bonus.
Pisces: Jareth From Labyrinth

Pisces would not limit themselves to clothes that made sense in the ordinary world.
Velvet coats, flowing shirts, tall boots, dramatic jewelry, and enormous hair made Jareth look like he belonged in a dream. Pisces would happily accept the challenge of making the outfit work at the grocery store.
